Professor Ming Sun graduated from the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 1985. He went to Newcastle to pursue his PhD degree in 1988. After the completion of it, he did the post-graduate research there and was appointed as Lecturer in Newcastle in 1994.
Professor Sun moved to University of Salford in July, 1996 as a Lecturer of Construction IT and subsequently was promoted to Senior Lecturer in August, 2001. From September, 2002 to March, 2012, Professor Sun was appointed as Professor and the Director of Construction and Property Research Centre.
In April 2012, Professor Sun joined the School of the Built Environment at Heriot-Watt University as Professor of construction management and innovation. His research areas include the application of information technology in construction, the management of construction programs, and the sustainable development in the construction sector, etc. In the recent years, he supervised 14 PhD students and led over a dozen research projects, with the total grants exceeding 3,250,000 pounds.
